
In all her years, Sara Evans only held just one ambition: to perform and write country music. Evans is quoted as saying, "God has put me on earth to become an artist." This is according to John Meroney from American Enterprise. "It's my passion to perform more than anything else and I'm determined to achieve it happen." Moreover, Evans wanted to succeed by going back to traditional country songs brought to life by legendary stars such as Patsy Cline, Hank Snow, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, and Patty Loveless, musicians Evans thought of as her most influential sources of inspiration. In the latter part of 1990, an era when most aspiring country musicians turned to contemporary popular radio tunes Evans established herself by performing country songs which reflected the past and reflected her debut album from 1997, True Lies. But despite critical acceptance as well as a nomination from the Academy of Country Music in 1998 as the most promising female vocalist, True Lies made little significant impact. Evans is set to release her follow-up album in 1999, No Place That Far was the result of bowing to producers that convinced her to upgrade her range.
